Are banks set to hike fees?
The retail banking world has changed significantly as of late. Savers are getting lower rates, and some feel they are about to get hit with a wave of fee increases. Banks could certainly use the revenue, but they are on tricky terrain. CNNMoney.com notes that for the moment banks seem to be raising fees on non-customers. Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase have raised the fees it charges non-account holders to access their ATMs nationwide to $3 from $2. JPMorgan Chase also hiked the fee it charges some account holders for using non-Chase ATMs to $2 from $1.50. We may see more of this nationwide. But there could easily be some PR ramifications and customer discontent has a way of ground-swelling. Stay tuned.
