Hedge funds still in hiring mode
For all the angst, the hedge fund industry fared well in 2007. And next year, looks to be another growth year, as the commitments do not look to be flagging. That means the industry will remain in hiring mode at all levels. At some companies, growth got ahead of the basic business infrastructure. There's heavy demand for back office personnel, accounting, legal and administrative, notes Investment Dealers' Digest. Pay is sure to rise. Almost 70 percent of hedge funds are having difficulty retaining back-office personnel (Rothstein Kass); about 60 percent say they do not have professionals on staff. Out-sourcing, of course, looms as an option. Prime brokers are also said to be hiring.
